Reporting to the Director of Warehousing & Logistics this role will help oversee the Newport News location. Duties include the daily management of both inbound and outbound activities, overseeing the processing of orders, prioritizing work loads, scheduling staff, responsible for operational effectiveness, and over all inventory control. You are an advocate of our customers; ensure we do our best to meet customer expectations each time, especially those with sensitive deadlines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the warehouse, including day to day management of warehouse leads and associates. This includes scheduling, assigning tasks based on workload, approving time sheets, vacations, follow-up on absences.
  • Working with Director of Warehousing and Logistics to ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met while introducing new standards.
  • Train and mentor employees while creating a supportive team environment, encourage continuous improvement, and look for ways to increase efficiencies in both the outbound and inbound processes.
  • Conduct safety training and ensure all staff follow safety rules to ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate in planning the arrangement of goods within the warehouse and organize special requirements for certain stock, heavy or highly fragile products.
  • Monitor team productivity and provide performance evaluations, constructive feedback, mentorship, and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy within bin locations.
  • Assist in managing teams of workers and deal with personnel issues such as the recruitment, training and discipline of staff; supervisors also oversee receiving, picking, packing and distribution activity. Supervision is exercised over all warehouse staff.
  • Work closely with logistics coordinator who is responsible for all outbound freight with LTL companies or 3rd party logistics companies.
  • Assist in overseeing process and procedures for document control to include accurateness, thoroughness and completeness and prepare additional documentation when necessary.
  • Oversee inventory cycle count and annual inventory procedures.
  • Take responsibility for the security of the building and stock.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience as a Warehouse Supervisor, including inventory experience within a warehouse environment. Shipping, receiving, and order processing experience highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across departments.
  • Strong ability to motivate team members
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Experience setting up, maintaining, or optimizing drop shipments with major couriers.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Two to five years of related work experience, with specific knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean
  • Generally, a handy person with some experience working with hand tools.
  • Able to lift 23 kgs (50lbs) without assistance and work at a fast pace, when necessary
  • Manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Degree or Diploma preferred.
